The 2014 Continental Volleyball Conference individual awards have been released and include Player of the Year from Juniata College Paul Kuhn, Freshman of the Year from Mount St. Joseph College Alex Vohland and Coach of the Year from Dominican University Dan Ames.
Kuhn, a junior outside hitter, helped lead his team to the 2014 CVC Tournament Championship. Kuhn totaled 192 kills this season, averaging 2.49 per set with a .354 hitting percentage. Kuhn stepped up his game during CVC play hitting .411, third best in the league. He added 35 service aces during the year, third most by a CVC player. Kuhn recorded nine double digit kill matches including a season high 20 kills against Rutgers-Newark.
Vohland, a freshman outside hitter, was named the 2014 Freshman of the Year in helping the Mount St. Joseph team return to CVC play. Vohland was the Lions go to player with over 300 kills on the season, averaging 4.02 per set with a .242 hitting percentage. Vohland also was second on the team in digs and total blocks. He finished fourth in the conference in kills, sixth in kills per set and seventh in digs. Vohland finished with 20 double digit kill matches, topping 20 kills four times including a season best 27 kills against Thiel College. He added eight double digit digs games this season, seven of which came during conference play.
The 2014 CVC Coach of the Year is Dan Ames from Dominican University. Ames guided the first year program to a 13-14 overall record this season including a 5-5 record in the CVC, capturing a spot in the 2014 CVC Tournament.
