Wexter Named CVC
Player of the Wee (March 31, 2014)
Wexter, a senior setter from New Lenox, Ill., is this week's CVC
Player of the Week. Wexter, the reigning CVC Player of the Year,
helped the #4 ranked Redmen to a pair of wins last week including a

AROUND THE CVC
The Highlanders got back into the
win column last week with a 3-1 win over Eastern Mennonite,
snapping their six match losing streak. Cairn found their way into
the win column with a 25-18, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-15 win that saw
them hit .234 as a team. Josiah Buss led the way with 17 kills
while Jon Wilson added 42 assists and 11 digs. |
The #4 ranked Carthage Redmen won their
only match last weekend, a 3-1 win over Dominican. The Redmen close
out their regular season this weekend with matches against
Lakeland, Fontbonne and Mount St. Joseph. |
Dominican split their two
matches last weekend, a 3-1 loss to Carthage and a 3-0 win over
MSOE. The Stars hit .324 in the match with 35 kills and just 11
errors in only 74 attempts. The balanced attack was paced by
Zachary Sinn with nine kills. |
After piecing together six
straight wins the Royals have struggled to get back into the win
column and are currently on a five match losing streak after
falling to Stevenson, Cairn and Stevens last weekend. The Royals
will look to end their 2014 season on a positive note as they host
Marymount this week in their season finale. |
Fontbonne went 1-1 last
week with a 3-0 loss to Lakeland and a 3-0 win over MSOE. The
Griffins picked up their win in a 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23 match that
saw the hit .364 as a team. Aaron Graue led the attack with 13
kills. Fontbonne faces Carthage and Dominican this weekend at
home. |
Juniata ran their
winning streak to eight matches with three wins last week. Their
undefeated week pushed them into sole possession of the top ranking
in the latest AVCA poll. Juniata closes out the regular season with
home matches against Stevenson and Cairn. |
Lakeland is tied for the longest active winning streak in the
league with eight games as they picked up three wins last week. The
first-year CVC member is now 19-6 overall this season and are on
the road at Carthage and MSOE to close out the regular season. |
The final week of the regular season will be a
busy one for the first-year program as they play five matches. The
Saints face Eastern Mennonite on the road before squaring off
against Medaille, Stevens, Sprinfield and Endicott in Springfield,
Mass. this weekend. |
MSOE has just one remaining match in their 2014
season, a home match against #12 ranked Lakeland. The Raiders
dropped their previous match this season to Lakeland by the score
of 3-0. MSOE is currently 4-18 under first-year head
coach Wayne Schultz. |
Mount St. Joseph will be looking to clinch
a spot into the CVC Tournament. The Lions take on Dominican on
Friday in a winner-take-all match. The two programs split their
earlier two matches this season. Mount St. Joseph is currently 16-9
on the season. |
Stevenson has
secured the second seed in the East for the CVC Tournament. The
Mustangs are 18-7 overall and 6-1 in the division. They close out
the regular season with road matches against Juniata and Thiel this
weekend. |
Thiel closes out their regular
season with two home matches this weekend. The Tomcats will face
Cairn on Friday and Stevenson on Saturday. Thiel defeated Cairn 3-0
and fell to Stevenson 3-1 earlier this year. |
